Firstly the hair is washed and the first solution is applied, this solution breaks the bonds that make the hair curl or frizz. The solution could be applied on the hair from one minute to one hour depending on the condition of the hair.

The solution is then washed off with shampoo and conditioner and the first ironing stage begins. This part of the process consists of taking small sections of the hair and ironing to straighten the bonds.

Once the ironing is finished the second solution is applied which acts as a neutraliser and is left on for roughly ten minutes, it is then rinsed off with conditioner.

The hair is then blown dried and ironed to finish, the whole procedure takes from three to five hours to complete depending on the strength, length and thickness of the hair.

As no two heads of Hair are never the same Yuko is not suitable for all types, a consultation is always necessary before the service can be performed.

YUKO-Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What types of hair can be straightened using YUKO?

A: Most hair types are suitable although Afro-Carribean  or very course hair may not be. It is advisable to have a consultation with the stylist performing the straightening beforehand. They will be able to tell you if the straightening is suitable for your hair, and whether you will get an immediate result. Yuko can also be progressive as in that the hair will improve over treatments and time.

Q: Is coloured hair suitable for YUKO straightening?

A: Generally yes it is. We recommend that if hair is going to be coloured, it is done at least two weeks before or two weeks after the straightening is done. Highlighted hair may or may not be suitable. In any case the condition of the hair should be assessed by a stylist before the straightening is done.

Q: How often should I have the straightening done?

A: The average time between straightening treatments is 4 - 9 months. Hair texture and speed of growth amongst other factors will determine how often you should have your hair straightened.

Q: How long does YUKO straightening take?

A: Usually between 3 - 4 hours but very long or dense hair may take longer.

Q: Will I still have to blow dry my hair?

A: After having YUKO straightening you will be able to 'wash and go'. Once re-growth occurs you may find it necessary to style the new growth.

Q: Is there anything I shouldn't do with my hair after the straightening?

A: For 48 hours after having the straightening done you should avoid doing anything with your hair that you would not want to remain there, e.g. crimps from rubber bands, clips and hats. You should not wash your hair for the first 48 hours after the straightening. You should not colour your hair for at least 2 weeks after having the straightening done.

Q: Do I have to use special products afterwards?

A: We recommend the use of YUKO home care products. They have been designed for use after straightening to maintain the condition of your hair.
